Prof. Barry is an inspiration. Training with him
over the years, I’ve learned that you never ever have to stop growing. He demonstrates this every time he steps on the mats. Don’t miss out on training with Prof Barry!

As a 4-stripe purple belt, I've dropped in a few times. Barry is a very knowledgeable Bjj professor. He provides little details specific to my body type that really elevated my game. He has a great dedicated crew of students varying from white belts all the way on up to a few recently promoted black belts. Whether you're brand new to Bjj or looking to change gyms, I highly recommend Barry at Northbrook Jiu Jitsu.

Great place to train. Multiple black belts professors present to always coach and help out. Classmates are always respectful and happy to help out the newcomers. They also started kids program few months ago and now all of my three kids are training. Come and give it a try, you won't regret it.

Professor Barry is one of the most knowledgeable and friendliest people in the Chicago jiujitsu community. He runs an excellent program, his students are wonderful people, and he fosters a culture that is welcoming, open-minded and growth-oriented. Highly recommended.

Professor Barry is very knowledgeable, detail oriented, and overall a great instructor. His passion for the art inspires and molds aspiring practitioners to be the best they can be. As a long time student I can attest to this. Come see for yourself, the first class is always FREE....

Good place to train at. Everyone is all team players working together to better themselves and each other to sharpen up our jiu jitsu skills. I’ve trained before with Professor Barry at his old location a few years back before coming back and training again at his new location where he teaches. I have to say, good teacher, cool friendly person, and is knowledgeable of what he teaches. From coming a long way in training jiu jitsu for a good 13 years I recommend training with the northbrook jiu jitsu team. We train smart, train hard, make the best of our training.

I have been learning from Professor Barry Phillps for a few years now and Northbrook Jiu Jitsu is a definitely a good fit for me. The atmosphere is great for any level. If you are a beginner this is a great place to start as Professor Barry has the patience and years of experience. From day one he will personally make sure you are feeling welcomed and comfortable and will take time to show the techniques. All of our students women, men and kids are like a family and all respect each other and always willing to help regardless of belt color. There are also an array of skilled upper belts that are very experienced and are a crucial part of helping students learn and improve. This facility is top notch, clean and has new matts with plenty of room for our big classes. I highly recommend this place! Great environment! Great people! Just come by and try it and see for yourself. No intimidation just friendly people that want to learn jiu jitsu.

I’ve been training with Prof. Barry for over a year now and it’s been great. Barry is detailed oriented and provides excellent instruction. The higher belts in the class are always willing to help which creates a great learning environment. Both of my sons attend the kids class and they love it.

Professor Barry is a Chicagoland BJJ pillar and his school has some of the best instruction you can get in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. This is reflected in the quality of his students and the number of loyal members and the growing number of black belts he has working with him. Northbrook JJ stands out as the place you need to consider if you want to train, providing both quality and a safe path of longevity on the North Shore burbs from Chicago.

I embarked on my Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey at this facility approximately 2 years ago. From day one, Professor Berry welcomed me warmly, creating a comfortable environment. Every training partner I've encountered here has been incredibly helpful, offering proper support and guidance. I genuinely believe this is the premier location for Jiu-Jitsu training in the northwest suburbs area, particularly for beginners. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.
